Since the Covid-19 pandemic hit England, five of our members have sadly died:
- Jim Carmichael
- Chris Tait
- Arnold Hoiles
- Maurice Hallett
- Dave White.
But, as a Club, we have not been able to celebrate their lives, for example by attending funerals or wakes.
So, on Sunday 15th August 2021, we will be having a memorial group ride in their honour.
Meeting at the Chequers at Bragbury End, we are planning to take a route past each member's home and end at a pub where we can enjoy a social gathering over a drink.
The planning is in its early stages but we will post the route once available. It's anticipated we will start at 10:00 and finish around lunch time.
We hope you can put this date in your diary and keep it free for this mark of respect.
The ride will be organised like the "Covid-19" rides. Please let us know if you will be coming along and you will be added to a Whatsapp group we will set up for the occasion.
The Chairman, Tony Brown, is planning the route but Cider Bob has volunteered to arrange the group. So please message Cider Bob if you are coming. You can use:
- the Club Whatsapp Group (preferred)
- direct Whatsapp
- SMS text
- old fashioned telephone call
- Club email - Stevenageanddmcc@gmail.com
Although we will form as one big group, we are planning on as many "leaders" as possible and will assign riders to each leader so there will be sub-groups and no need for the main group to stay as one for the entire route.
Start location, at 10:00 is the Chequers, Bragbury End, Stevenage, SG2 8TH
Obviously, with the ever present threat of Covid-19, common sense applies - if you have Covid symptoms or you have been in contact with someone who does, please do not come along. As always, you and your bike need to be fully legal and you take responsibility for your own ride.
Please have a look at our group ride guidelines page for extra info.
If you have any questions or comments, just let us know.
